The Position
The Accounting Manager is a strategic, detail-oriented, and people-focused accounting leader who thrives in complex, multi-entity environments and effectively balances competing priorities across clients. The individual is highly organized and process-driven, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, compliance, and consistency, and is equally comfortable thinking strategically and working hands-on to set standards and ensure proper execution. They are a proactive problem solver and change agent, continuously improving systems, workflows, and service delivery. Strong leadership and mentorship skills enable them to develop high-performing teams and foster accountability, while clear and effective communication allows them to translate complex accounting requirements into practical, scalable solutions for stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Manages multiple accounting functions and operations within a shared services environment, supporting a portfolio of internal and/or external clients.
- Oversees general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue recognition, asset, cost, and tax accounting activities across multiple entities.
- Establishes, implements, and maintains standardized accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls that comply with applicable governmental financial and tax regulations and align with GAAP and IFRS standards, as appropriate by client.
- Leads monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and consolidated reporting while ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency across clients.
- Evaluates accounting systems and workflows and drives process improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and service quality.
- Develops, mentors, and directs accounting professionals and support staff to deliver consistent, high-quality shared services support.
Requirements
Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field of study, or equivalent relevant work experience. 5 years of experience as individual contributor, 3 years of supervisory experience.
Preferred Skills
Master’s Degree in Accounting or related field. Previous experience leading a team of 3+ direct reports.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Content switching between multiple clients. The ability to delegate direct reports. The ability to call and video conference clients throughout the day. The ability to have tough conversations with direct reports and clients. This position has supervision and training aspects and may require tough conversations with other employees’ progress. This position will oversee hiring and termination decisions.
Schedule, Flexibility, and Travel
- Monday-Friday, Standard Business Hours. Flexibility is needed based on client needs.
- This is a Hybrid position. Days in the office depend on the client and company's needs.
- This position requires consistent travel to clients throughout the month predominately in the Greater Pittsburgh Area.
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting at $81,000, Negotiable based on experience.
